
The much-anticipated screening of aspirants for various positions in the upcoming Ebonyi State University (EBSU) Students’ Union Government (SUG) election took place on August 14, 2024, at the university’s mother CAS campus. The event was a significant step in the electoral process, setting the stage for what promises to be a keenly contested election.
Aspirants for key positions, including President, Vice President, Secretary General, director of sports, director of health, director of transportion and other executive positions, judiciary and legislative positions, were thoroughly evaluated by the screening committee constituted by the Dean students affairs, Prof. Aja Nwachukwu.
The committee, composed of faculty members and representatives from the university’s electoral body, assessed the candidates on several criteria, including academic standing, leadership qualities, and their vision for the student body.
The screening process was marked by a high level of enthusiasm from the candidates, who are eager to lead the student body in addressing critical issues such as academic reforms, student welfare, and campus security. Many of the aspirants presented innovative ideas and plans during their interviews, reflecting a deep commitment to improving the university environment.

The Chairman of the screening committee and Dean students affairs, represented by his deputy emphasized the importance of a fair and transparent process, ensuring that only the most capable candidates move forward to the election. “We are committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process. Our goal is to select candidates who not only meet the academic requirements but also demonstrate a strong commitment to serving the student community,” he stated.
As the screening concluded, the list of successful aspirants is expected to be posted on the university’s notice boards and shared on the official EBSU SUG social media platforms. These candidates will now advance to the campaign phase, where they will present their manifestos to the student electoral committee.
One of the aspirant on a short interview with our correspondent asserted that the student community and are eagerly awaiting what is expected to be a dynamic and competitive campaign period. The election outcome will undoubtedly shape the future of student 24 governance and representation at Ebonyi State University.
As at the time of this report, the EBSU SUG election date hasn’t been scheduled. Students and other stakeholders are encouraged to actively participate in the upcoming election, ensuring that their voices are heard.
