In our world today hygiene has been shifted to a certain gender “women”, hygiene should not be a bias topic, of a particular gender, we owe our environment and people around us a healthy breath, and unpolluted air. Personal hygiene is the total care of our body, ranging from mouth and all other parts of the body, personal hygiene, benefits the person, who practices it more than the people around him or her, e.g. it gives you self-confidence as a person, it improves the aura around you, and draws more like mind people to you, but sadly this hygiene is only severely sounded to the women, than it is to men, and I ask, are the men not part of the society? this is because we see men come out, with various breath, disturbing odor, yes sometimes they may not be aware, but I strongly believe that aside the few who has it as a birth defect, which sometimes is the negligence of the mothers, or people bathing the children, a large number of body odor comes from negligence in personal care, as severely men in pursuit of finance hardly take care of their body.
According to the book KEEP YOURSELF HEALTHY A MEN’S GUIDE TO KEEPING CLEAN, the author explained expressly the importance of hygiene for men, as it has only being a subject for women, the book went further to explain that, keeping a good personal hygiene, will stop your body from stinking, but failure to practice personal hygiene as a man, will cause your body to stink, this will make people to talk to you from far, or hold their breath when talking to you, especially if they don’t want to offend you, or that you are a public figure, but as much as people may not be confident to tell you, if you can practice some simple hygienic practice, you will minimize the effect ,your previous poor hygienic practice had on you and if you are consistent with it, you will gain back confidence (for those who already has bad breath or body odor), but for those who are lucky not to have it yet, adherence to this practice will save you the, known and unknown embarrassment and low self-esteem that comes with the effect of poor hygienic practices. And to the men and women who already practice these, please do not relent.
It is not a news, that in Africa, Nigeria, and in some indigenous places like Ebonyi state, the men are so hardworking and engross in hard work to cater for the family that ,most times they don’t pay attention to their health or hygiene, and most times for the married, their wives hardly tells them, either for fear of being seen as disrespectful to their husbands Or that most of the women Joins their men in this works and barely also have time for their family ,as most of these works are rigorous e.g. Farming, and other Laboring Jobs Known as “OKPOKORU” in the Local Ebonyi dialect, we know how hot Africa, Nigeria and Ebonyi state is, after being all out in the sun , taking your bath and sponging your body mildly is very essential, and as supervisors of site ,we should be our bothers keepers enough to provide, water for your laborers, we are so engross in them working out their sweats for us, that how they look, smell and health is little or none of our business.
For the young ones and those not into hard labor,” please can you take the mic and explain to me why you practice a very poor personal hygiene”, You are engrossed In “Let’s make this money and make mama proud”, that is very good and ,mama is proud to have you as a son, but will mama be proud of your “body odor”, so Keep your body clean, and incase mummy and daddy are so hard working that they do neglect their health, it is your place to ensure their hygiene, gift them deodorants, perfumes and ensure they bath, no matter how tired they are from work, and you! Keep your body clean, as you come back from Office, business place or school, do not let sweat dry up, on your body!
Caring for our body does not need the whole day, or breaking the bank, start with the basics
- Brush your teeth before and after eating to remove residuals that will change your breath, and importantly Normalize gently but regularly brushing the tongue.
- Bath at least twice a day, morning before you step out of the house and bath when you return, in the evening from work or before you go to sleep.
- Have a deodorant, also known as roll on and a good scenting and affordable perfume.
- Washing of inner wears for both male and female especial y male, always wash your boxers, buy affordable packs and normalize wearing clean boxers.
- Mothers and those bathing newly born babies, should learn to clean their tongues, with neat baby towel, so that the residual breast milk, won’t be tucked on the pores of their tongue, causing bad breath, which may result to mouth or body odor in the future.
